Know Your Why!

What is your Why?

Discovering your purpose/why is key to creating a life of meaning, fulfillment, and success.  And should be the backbone for opening your own business.

“You have a masterpiece inside you, you know.  One unlike any that has ever been created, or ever will be.  If you go to your grave without painting your masterpiece, it will not get painted. No one else can paint it.  Only you!”           Gordon Mackenzie

Many of you will be able to write your Why without any problem.  You’ve known your whole life what you wanted to do and why.  Others of us have struggled to find ourselves without a mentor or guide.  I’ve had several mentors in my life, and it’s because of them I know what my why is.  I’ll share that with you later.

For now, we’re talking about your why and how that relates to your business idea.  One of the keys to a happy life is to arrange things so that you spend more of your time doing things aligned with your why.   When you’re able to combine your livelihood with your why, achieving success becomes much easier.

Write To Your Success!

To determine your life’s why/purpose you need to take your time to answer the questions that follow.  Then finish by writing your own heartfelt why statement in your Business Journal.

You do have one don’t you?  No?  Whether it’s a paper version or digital, begin using it as often as you can.

There are many different approaches to clearly identifying your why.  And there are just as many labels for them.  But there’s only one response to the question – What’s Your Why?  Yours!!!

Ready?

  • What, besides making money, has driven you to think about actually staringt a business?
  • What is your passion about?
  • What can you write down that pinpoints your desires?
  • What problems do you want to solve?  For Business or direct to consumer?
  • Why do you want to help these people?
  • Why do you care about them?
  • Would you be in business if you knew you were going to fail at it?
  • If money wasn’t an object, what business would you create?
  • Is there a problem in your community or in the world you want to solve?
  • Why should people buy your product or service over other products or services?

One point when writing your statement – Your Why is not your What!

Your Why/Purpose is not your What/Goals and objectives.

A goal is a specific target you want to reach by  a certain time.  A purpose is not have having something or achieving something.  There is no end point to a purpose.  Rather, its about using your natural talents and being a certain way .

Your Why is your ultimate reason for being.

“Don’t ask what the world needs.  Ask yourself what makes you come alive, and go do that, because what the world needs is people who have come alive.”         Howard Thurman, Author

Oh, I promised you I’d share my Why/Purpose.

My purpose is to “Pass It On”.  Pass on the knowledge, experience and support to help Women in Business succeed through Journal Writing.

My goal is to create an atmosphere for Women of all ages and education levels to get help with their business.  To teach them how to use their Business Journals for quality and informed decision making. And to provide that support and mentorship in honor of those that Passed It On to me.
